We examine the structural and professional failures of the modern American press, focusing on how journalists have increasingly mismanaged legitimate scientific and cultural debates. By analyzing the COVID-19 lab-leak theory, the 2020 civil unrest, and youth gender medicine, the text illustrates how newsrooms prematurely categorized controversial topics as “settled” to align with partisan narratives. This shift is attributed to a homogenized media class that lacks diverse perspectives and a new subscription-based economic model that rewards affirming the audience’s existing biases. Rather than a coordinated conspiracy, these failures stem from a lack of internal friction and a refusal to audit the processes that produce inaccurate reporting.
